1 Flashcards
Biology
Study of life and all living organisms, and their interactions with one another
Properties of life
Order
response to stimuli
reproduction
adaptation
growth & development
regulation/homeostasis
energy processing
Regulation/Homeostasis
Maintaining body to be stable in their environment
(Polar bears and their fur)
Adaptation
Adjusting to a new condition/environment for survival
Biological LVL’s of organization
Atom
molecules
Macromolecules
organelles
cells
tissues
organs
organ system
Organism
population, community, ecosystem, biosphere
3 domains in diversity of life
Bacteria, Archaea, Eurkarya
Basic science
Seeking to explain knowledge by understanding, natural world through observations, regardless of short term applications
Applied science
Use science to solve immediate problems
Hypothesis
A suggested explanation for an event tested by experiment
Peer review
A blind process where scientist submit their work, and reviewers determine, if research is logical or original and conducted
Scientific method
1) Observing world around us
2) Proposing ideas
3) Discard/modify ideas based on result
Variable and control
Variable is a part of experiment that changes, control remains the same
Inductive reasoning
Logical, thinking that uses related observations to general conclusion
(Fruits and veggies contain vitamin C, people who eat more or healthier. Vitamin C is an anti-inflammatory agent, reduce throat & nose, irritation)
Deductive reasoning
Logical, thinking, uses general principles/law, to predict an expected observation
(If vitamin C decrease risk of cold people who take vitamin C experience fewer colds than those who don’t)
Scientific theory
General excepted/tested explanation for Phenomena
