1 Flashcards
The heart
The heart pumps blood around the body or throughout the body.
What is another name for congestive heart failure?
heart failure
What are the parts of the blood?
Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, plasma.
What is plasma?
plasma is the liquid part of the blood. It is the largest part of the blood. When separated, it has a light yellow color or a light amber color.
What is heart failure?
Heart failure is the inability of the heart to pump sufficient blood to meet the body’s metabolic needs.
What is ejection fraction measured by? What diagnostic test?
ejection fraction is the percentage of blood the left ventricle ejects when it contracts . Ejection fraction is measured using echocardiogram
What is congestive heart failure?
Congestive heart failure describes the accumulation of blood and fluid in organs and tissues from impaired circulation.
The heart is made up of how many Chambers?
Four Chambers.
Name the chambers of the heart.
Two atrias and two ventricles.
What is the purpose of the atrias ? What is the purpose of the ventricles?
The ventricles pump blood to your body’s organs and tissues and the Atria receive blood from your body as it circulates back from the rest of your body.
Deteriorate means to
Fail
What is hypervolemia
What is another name for it
Also called fluid overload , a condition of having too much water in your body.
How do we classify heart failure and what are the two ways?
When made to classify hard fear that is how it develops acute or chronic period another way to classify It Is by location right-sided or left-sided.
What does gradually mean?
Slowly
Left ventricle ejects blood in the
Right ventricle ejects blood in the
Aorta
Pulmonary artery
Primary reason for chf and definition
Second reason for chf
First reason myocardial infarction- insufficient blood flow to the heart or a part of the heart and causes Damage to cardiac muscles
Second reason, pumping chambers enlarged and weaken , such as in cardiomyopathy and hypertension where ventricles cannot eject all the blood they receive
Describe the locations of heart failure.
Left-sided heart failure, blood congested in the left ventricle and left atrium, high flow causes fluid to get into the alveoli, gas exchange becomes impaired, cells become hypoxic and carbon dioxide accumulates in the blood. right sided heart failure, right ventricle cannot forcefully contract to push blood into pulmonary artery. Congestion of blood and backflow accumulate in right ventricle, right atrium
What is ascites
Build-up of fluid inside the body. Makes abdomen swell
What vitals should be closely monitored?
Bp
