Action code
Something that happens in the narrative that tells the audience that some action will follow.
Active audience
Audience who actively engages in selecting media products to consume and interpret meanings
Anchorage
Words that accompany and image to give it a meaning
Appeal
Way products attract and interest and audience
Audience categorisation
How media producers group their audiences to target their products (sex, age, ethnicity)
Encoding and decoding
Media producers encode messages and meanings in products that are decoded or interpreted by audiences

Media texts that incorporate elements of multiple genres

A niche audience that are defined by social group or specific interest

They have a strong opinion for something and so they portray it through their product
Passive audience
They do not engage with the media but instead accept the message that is trying to be communicated
