Cells + Cells= ?
Tissue
Tissue + Tissue= ?
Organ
Epithelial tissue
Covers and provides underlying tissue
Muscle Tissue
Made up of cells that can contract and relax to provide movement
Nervous tissue
Sends electrical signals through the body. Found in brain, nerves, and sense organs
Connective Tissue
Joints, supports, protects, insulates, nourishes, and cushions organs. Keeps organs from falling apart.
Organ + Organ= ?
Organ System
Integumentary system
Protects the tissue that lies beneath
Muscular system
Provides movement, work in pairs and provide mobility for others.
Skeletal system
Provides support for the body. protects diet are internal organs, and provides attachment sites for the organs
Cardiovascular system.
Transports nutrients, gases, hormones and wastes through the body.
Respiratory system
Provides gas exchange between the blood and the environment.
Urinary system
Filters out cellular wastes, toxins, and excess water or nutrients from the circulatory system.
Endocrine system
Relays chemical messages through the body.
Digestive system
Break down and observe nutrients necessary for growth and maintenance
Lymphatic system
Destroy and remove invading microbes and viruses from the body. Removed fat and excess fluids from the blood.
Nervous system
Relay electrical messages throughout the bod, directs behavior and movement
Ligaments
Strong, elastic bands of connective tissue. Connects bones in a joint.
Joint
Place where 2+ bones meet; allows for body movement when muscles contract.
Spongy bone
Have lots of open spaces. Provides bone either most of its support and structure.
Bone
Living material made form minerals and connective tissue. There are 206 bones in a adult body. Stores minerals and make blood. They move with muscles.
Compact bone
No visible openings along the outside.
Red marrow
Children have this. Produces red and white blood cells.
Yellow marrow
Adults have this. Found in central cavity of bone. Stores fat.
