07 producers and photosynthesis Flashcards
WHAT IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS?
WHAT IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS?
Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction that plants and some algae use to produce glucose (food).
carbon dioxide + water → glucose + oxygen
reactans: products;
substances which react to form a new substance. substances are formed in a chemical reaction.
The energy to make the glucose is transferred from the Sun.

summer
In the summer, there is more photosynthesis as there is more sunlight and higher temperatures.
winter
n the winter, there is little photosynthesis as there are low levels of sunlight and lower temperatures.
Why is photosynthesis important?
Photosynthesis is important as this is how energy enters the ecosystem. Without it other primary, secondary and tertiary consumers would be unable to get the energy they need to survive.
