07 - Aurora Provisioned Flashcards
1
Q
Aurora Provisioned is very different from RDS
A
- Aurora is based on cluster architecture
2
Q
Single primary instance + 0 or more replicas
A
- All replica can be used for read ops
- Replica can be used as failover options
3
Q
Storage
A
- Aurora uses a shared cluster volume
- 65TB maximum sizes.
- Cluster disk is based on SSD only, high IOPS, low latency
- Storage is based on what you consume
4
Q
Costs
A
- Aurora there is NO free tier.
- Beyond a micro-size instance Aurora is cheaper
- Billed on storage consumption.
- Storage GB-Month consumed.
- Billed on the high water mark
- Billed on Compute hourly
- charge per sec 10 min
- Billed on IO cost
- per request
- 100% DB size in backups included
5
Q
Replication
A
- 6 replicas synchronously replicated
- Replication happens at storage layer
- Aurora repairs any failures of disk
- No need to do point in time or snapshots to recover from disk failure
- Up to 15 replicas
6
Q
DNS
A
- DNS addresses used cluster endpoint and the reader endpoint
- Reader endpoint will load balance across the replicas
- Can create customer endpoints for specific DB
7
Q
Backups
A
- Backups work the same way as RDS
- Restores create a brand new cluster
8
Q
Recovery
A
- Backtrace can be enable to roll back DB to a previous point in time in place
- Fast clone allow you to create a brand new DB faster than copying all the data. COPY ON WRITE
