What is the treatment of choice in acute bronchitis?
Doxycycline
Given when someone is systemically unwell/has comorbidities or a high CRP
How do you differentiate between acute bronchitis and pneumonia?
Sputum, wheeze and breathlessness can be absent in AB
On examination in AB there will be no crepitations, bronchial breathing, only chest finding will be wheeze
What type of cancer does alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency increase the risk of?
Hepatocellular carcinoma
What is the target sats in a patient presenting with an acute asthma attack?
94-98%
What is the first line treatment in sarcoidosis?
Prednisolone
-if patient symptomatic or high grade disease
What are the indications for non invasive ventilation?
COPD with resp acidosis (pH 7.25-7.35)
T2RF secondary to chest wall deformities, neuromuscular disease, obstructive sleep apnoea
Cardiogenic Pulmonary oedema which does not respond to CPAP
Weaning from tracheal intubation
What is defined as a pack year?
20 cigarettes a day= 1 pack year
