What is a pubic sector organisation?
an organisation controlled or run directly by the state such as Government departments or local authorities. For example; schools, heath related services and policing
What is a private sector organisation?
Any privately owned organisation, this can include; sole traders, partnerships, private limited companies and public limited companies
What is a not-for-profit?
An organisation formed with the intention of providing a benefit rather than making a profit, such as a charity
What is a cooperative organisation?
An organisation that is owned by the workers who share the profits, for example; John Lewis and Partners
What is centralisation?
When key decisions are concentrated in one places and are made by upper management
What is decentralisation?
When key decisions are distributed and delegated away from upper management to lower levels on the structure
What is a scalar chain?
The number of layers of management from the top to the bottom of the organisation
What is span of control mean?
The number of employees each manager has under their control
