Q
Clinical Correlates
- What is Anemia?
A
- A general condition marked by either
- Low RBC count
- Decreased hematocrit
- Reduction of hemoglobin
2
Q
Clinical Correlates
- What is Polycythemia?
A
- AKA erythrocytosis
- an increase in RBC count can be caused by environmental factors: physiologic adaptation to increased O2 demand or a decrease in environmental pO2 (e.g. high altitude); physiological; or pathological.
- Regardless of the cause, an elevated hematocrit increases blood viscosity and can strain the heart and impair circulation through the capillaries if it is severe.

Q
Clinical Correlates
- What do Neutrophil defects do to the health of patients?
A
- Neutrophil defects
- Any of the many numerous defects in the neutrophil functions that negatively impact their function
- Adherence to walls of venules
- Absence of specific granules or azurophilic granules.
- Individuals are prone to more frequent and more persistent bacterial infections.
- Any of the many numerous defects in the neutrophil functions that negatively impact their function

Q
Clinical Correlates
- What is Eosinophilia?
- What is it associated with?
A
- Eosinophilia
- Increase in the number of circulating eosinophils
- Typically occurs when associated with allergic reactions and certain parasitic infection, e.g. parasitic worms.
