01 Genesis Flashcards
God created the heavens, the earth and everything that lives.
God made humankind in his image, and gave them charge over the earth.
Genesis 1
God formed a man and gave him the garden in Eden, except the tree of good and evil.
Adam was alone so God made a woman as his partner.
Genesis 2
The serpent deceived Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden
God curses the earth
Adam and Eve sent out of the garden of Eden
Genesis 3
Cain and Abel made offerings to the LORD. Only Abel’s was acceptable.
Cain killed Abel.
Abel’s blood cried out and God sent Cain away
Genesis 4
Adam’s line was: Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech and Noah.
Noah’s sons were Shem, Ham and Japheth.
Genesis 5
Wickedness in the earth increased
God decides to destroy the world
God commands Noah to build an ark
Genesis 6
Noah, his family, and animals enter ark;
It rained for 40 days and nights and flood covers whole earth
All humans and land creatures outside ark destroyed
Genesis 7
The flood ends and the waters recede
Noah sent out a raven and two doves.
Noah, his family and the animals exit the ark
Noah made a burnt offering to God
Genesis 8
God blesses Noah & family
God set the rainbow as a sign that he would never flood the earth again
Noah got drunk and cursed Ham’s son Canaan
Noah dies
Genesis 9
Japheth’s line lived in the coastlands
Ham’s line included Nimrod and the Canaanites
Shem’s line lived in the East
These formed the nations.
Genesis 10
Tower of Babel built
The LORD scatters & confounds the people from Babel;
Shem’s line included Abram who married Sarai.
Genesis 11
God told Abram, “Go, I will make you a great nation. You will be a blessing.”
Abram moves to Canaan, Bethel & Egypt
Abram lies to Egyptians about Sarai
Genesis 12
Abram journeyed with his nephew Lot
Abram moves back to Bethel; Lot departs to Jordan
Abram moves to Canaan
The LORD promises land & many descendants to Abram
Genesis 13
War between kings in valley of Siddim; Lot taken captive in the war
Abram rescues Lot
Melchizedek blesses the LORD
Genesis 14
The Lord promised Abram an heir and many descendants. Abram believed.
Abram was told his descendants would be enslaved but would then return.
The LORD makes covenant with Abram
Genesis 15
Sarai told Abram to have children with Hagar
Hagar conceived, then ran away, but an angel sent her back
Hagar’s son was Ishmael.
Genesis 16
God made a covenant with Abram and renamed him Abraham
He renamed Sarai Sarah and promised them a son
The men in Abraham’s family were circumcised.
Genesis 17
Three visitors came and said that Sarah would have a son next year
Sodom was very evil; Abraham pleaded with the LORD for the city
Genesis 18
Angels took Lot out of Sodom
The city was destroyed by fire and Lot’s wife was turned to salt
His daughters had children for him.
Genesis 19
Abraham moved to Gerar, said to Abimelech (king of Gerar) that Sarah was his sister
King Abimelech took her but God warned him in a dream. He restored Sarah to Abraham
Genesis 20
As promised, Sarah had a son: Isaac
Sarah had Hagar and Ishmael sent away but God preserved them
Abraham and Abimelech made a treaty
Genesis 21
God asks Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, but God prevents it, and ram sacrificed instead
Descendants of Nahor, Abraham’s brother

Sarah died; Abraham purchases field of Ephron to use the cave as a burying place for Sarah

Abraham’s servant went to Nahor to find a wife for Isaac
The servant met Rebekah by the well
Rebekah went back with him and married Isaac
Genesis 24
Abraham died and was buried with Sarah
Isaac and Rebekah had twins: Esau and Jacob
Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a meal
Genesis 25
In Gerar Isaac lied about Rebekah
He grew so rich that Abimelech sent him away
He dug wells, and at Beersheba the LORD blessed him
Genesis 26
Rebekah and Jacob tricked Isaac into giving Jacob his blessing
Esau vowed revenge so Rebekah told Jacob to go to her brother Laban
Genesis 27
Isaac sent Jacob to marry one of Laban’s daughters
On the way Jacob dreamed of a ladder reaching to heaven and the LORD blessed him
Genesis 28
Jacob worked for Laban seven years to marry Rachel, but Laban gave him Leah and made him work seven more for Rachel
Leah bares Reuben, Simeon, Levi & Judah
Genesis 29
Dan, Naphtali, Gad & Asher born to maids
Leah bares Issachar, Zebulun & Dinah
Rachel bares Joseph; Jacob’s cattle increase
Genesis 30
Joseph was Israel’s favorite son
Joseph had dreams and his brothers were jealous so they sold him
Joseph was bought by Potiphar in Egypt.
Genesis 37
Judah sleeps with Shuah, bares Er, Onan & Shelah
Er marries Tamar; Er dies
Tamar acts as harlot, lies with Judah, bares twins
Genesis 38
Joseph taken to Egypt, bought by Potiphar
Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce Joseph, then lied about it
Joseph refused, was jailed, prospered in jail
Genesis 39
Pharaoh put his cupbearer and baker in prison
Joseph interpreted their dreams
The cupbearer was restored but the baker was hanged.
Genesis 40
Pharaoh dreams, is troubled, calls Joseph
Joseph interprets dreams which predicted a famine
Joseph made ruler of Egypt, marries, has 2 children
7 yrs famine
Genesis 41
Joseph’s brothers went to Egypt to buy grain but didn’t recognize him
Joseph kept Simeon in prison and sent the rest to fetch Benjamin
Genesis 42
When the grain ran out, Joseph’s brothers went back to Egypt with Benjamin
Joseph invited them to his house and gave them a feast, favors Benjamin
Genesis 43
Joseph hid his cup in Benjamin’s sack, then sent a steward after his brothers
Judah offered himself as a slave instead of Benjamin
Genesis 44
Joseph reveals himself to his brothers
Joseph offers gifts & land of Goshen to his father & brothers
Joseph’s brothers went to fetch their father
Genesis 45
God reveals to Israel to go to Egypt
Jacob & all his household move to Egypt

Genesis 46
Pharaoh meets Joseph’s father & brothers, offers them best land in Egypt; famine worsens
The Egyptians sold all they had to Pharaoh for food
Genesis 47
Joseph & his two sons, Manesseh & Ephraim, meet Jacob
Jacob blesses Joseph’s two sons, saying the younger shall be greater
Genesis 48
Pharaoh allowed Joseph to go and bury Jacob in Canaan
Joseph forgives his brothers
Before Joseph died, he said that God would lead his people back to the promised land
Joseph dies
Genesis 50
Jacob gathers his 12 sons, commands, blesses & prophecies concerning them
Jacob charged his sons to bury him with Abraham in the cave in Canaan
