... Flashcards
What do tubules absorb?
Water, glucose, amino, acids and urea
What does the pituitary gland do if the water levels are too low?
Sends a signal to the pituitary gland telling it to release ADH. When it reaches the kidneys it tells the tubules to reabsorb more water. So less urine is produced
What happens if too much water is reabsorbed?
The signals will stop being sent to the pituitary gland so less ADH is produced
What is osmoregulation an example of?
A negative feedback loop
How does ADH help with reabsorption?
It increases the permeability of the tubule.
How is low water content of the blood controlled?
.low water content detected by hypothalamus
.pituitary gland releases ADH into blood
. makes kidney tubules more permeable
.more water reabsorbed into blood in selective reabsorption
.more concentrated, smaller volume of urine

How is high water content of the blood controlled?
