. Flashcards
What is the first step of germination of mono?
Water is imbibed through micropyle
What is the second step of germination of monos?
Developing embryo produces GIBBERELLIN
What is the 3rd step
Gibberellin transported to aleurone layer
What is the 4th step? What does this produce?
Only once the gibberellin reaches the aleurone layer does the transcription of DNA to mRNA get switched on
What is the 5th step? To make what? Using what?
Translation of mRNA to make amylase using stored proteins in aleurone layer
Where does amylase go? How?
Diffuses into endosperm
What does the amylase do in where?
Catalyses the hydrolysis of starch to maltose in endosperm
What is maltose broken down to? Where and where does it go?
Hydrolysed to alpha glucose in endosperm. Diffuses into embryo to be used as energy source for respiration
What is the first step of germination in dicots?
Water is imbibed through micropyle
What is the 2nd step of germination in dicots? What does this mean?
Seed swell and testa ruptures
Oxygen can enter
What is the 3rd step?
Mobilisation of food reserves
What does mobilisation mean?
Food stores are able to move around the seed
What activates the enzymes?
Water
What is starch converted to using what?
Maltose using amylase
What are proteins broken into using what?
Amino acids using protease
