What is a ‘near’ or ‘far’ place?
Could refer to geographical distance between places
Or
Could describe the emotional connection with a particular place and how comfortable a person feels in that place
What is positionalitiy and its factors?
Different people will perceive places in different ways
Gender
Age
Race
Ethnicity
Religion
Socio-economic status
Politics
What is an experienced place?
A place that a person has spent time in that has shaped their sense of that place
What is a media place?
A place where someone has never been, but their sense of place is shaped by the media eg) films, tv, books, poems.
What are exogenous factors?
Exogenous factors are defined as the relationships of one place with other places and the external factors which affect this
e.g. a town may be the source of day-trippers for a tourist destination.
What are endogenous factors?
These refer to the local demographic characteristics and the physical geography of a place. They have originated internally These help to shape its unique character.
What is lived experience?
A person’s sense of place that has been developed through their first-hand experiences of the place in spending time there.
