Waves Homework So Needed To Be Septate Flashcards
What does opaque mean?
Material doesn’t allow light to pass through it
What does absorbed mean?
Passes into but not out of, transfers energy and heats object
What is refraction?
Wave changes direction at boundary
What is a boundary?
When one material ends and another material starts, happens when 2 different materials are next to each other=boundary
What does translucent mean?
Material allows light to pass through it, but diffuses the light so clear images can’t be seen through it
What is reflection?
Wave bounces off surface
Define transparent?
Material allows all light to pass without scattering it
What does it mean if an object transmits light?
It’s transparent and translucent
Define transmitted?
Passes through the object
What colour is something if all wavelengths are absorbed?
Object appears black
What colour is an object if all wavelengths are reflected equally?
Object appears white
What happens if wavelengths are not reflected?
They are absorbed
What is the colour of an opaque object determined by?
Determined by which wavelengths are more strongly reflected
How do colour filters work?
They absorb certain wavelengths (and colour) and transmit other wavelengths (and colour)
What does each colour have?
It’s own narrow band of wavelength and frequency
