Section A Flashcards
What is automation?
Getting machines to meet things for you through a program
What is robotics
A robot that is programmed to perform a function
What is computer Aided design
Software that allows you to design prototypes digitally
What is computer Aided manufacture
Computer Aided manufacture uses computer numerical control to create CAD designs. It interprets the coordinates to manufacture the design
What is rapid prototyping
It it allows designers to develop prototypes very quickly as it is an additive manufacturing process
What are the pros and cons of rapid prototyping?
Pros: feel it in real life and no waste materials
Cons: quite slow and can take up lots of space
What are the pros and cons of computer Aided manufacture?
Pros: very accurate and very fast and efficient
Cons: expensive, replaces human workload and requires maintenance.
What are the pros and cons of computer Aided design?
Pros:allows you to see product from different angles and save money and time as you can test in within software
Cons: you can’t hold or touch the product and takes a long time to learn
What are the pros and cons of robotics
Pros: no people and perform complex tasks
Cons: expensive, takes up space and hard learn
Pros and cons of automation?
Pros : no wages and work all the time
Cons :expensive and take up space
What is a cooperative?
A business that is owned and run by its workers and members, the profit is shared.
What is a fair trade group?
Ensures farmers are paid a fair amount, have decent working conditions and fair terms of trade.
What is meant by crowd funded?
Where you advertise a product on a website to try to get investors to invest and allow you to create the product.
What does sustainability mean?
Sustainability means to reduce the damage we cause in the environment so that it doesn’t affect future generations and make sure that resources keep on giving.
Give 3 examples of finite and non finite resources?
Finite:metals, plastics, oil
Non finite : wood, cotton and wind
