Q

What did Thomas Aquinas believe about LOD

A

Aquinas believed in beautific vision, meaning that humanity is rewarded with knowledge of God after death as they come face to face with him in the afterlife, all doubt is gone. This is rewarded to those who have shown faith in God and Jesus. This view is one of unlimited election.

Q

What did Aquinas believe about human souls?

A

Aquinas believed that all living creatures have souls and that those souls have essential characteristics (much like aristolte believed). Humans are special and have ‘rational souls’ as they are capable of reasoning. He believed that the ability of logical thought and reason cannot be phyical but must be capable of existance without a physical body (disembodied view).

Q

What did Aquinas believe about our purpose.

A

He believed that the soul was able to give purpose as it allows us to have faith in a God. The soul then allows the grant of the final reward- living eternally with God as it means we are capable of holding faith. (Similar to platonic view).

Q

What is a physical belief in heaven and a scholar to back this up?

A

The belief that heaven is a real plae that exists physically. Our bodies as well as our souls are able to go to this place due to its physical nature. Hick’s replica theory supports this. He is a materialist and believes that an exact replica of our body is created by God in heaven, one that is immortal and experiences no pain.
