- Exploratory

What is Exploratory research design?
This research is qualitative in nature rather than quantitative. Individual and focus group interviews are useful methods to collect qualitative data.
What are the objectives of the exploratory research design?
- To find out the nature of the problem: Needs and wants of customers.
- To define the problem: The possible causes of declining market share, and to formulate the hypotheses.
What is primary data collection?
Information collected for the specific purpose at hand. Must be relevant, accurate, current, and unbiased.
What is secondary data?
Information that already exists somewhere, available more quickly and at a lower cost than primary data.
What are some examples of secondary data?
- Internal databases
- Commercial data services
- Government sources
What is descriptive research design?
Quantitative data which may include demographic profile of respondents, behavioral purchasing data, among others.
What are the objectives of descriptive research design?
- To describe quantitatively the problems identified by the exploratory research
- To get better understanding of the scope and nature of the problems
