A
- No opening of the eye
- Eye opening in response to pain stimulus (trap squeeze)
- Eye opening to speech.
- Eyes opening spontaneously

A
- No verbal response
- Incomprehensible sounds
- Inappropriate words / words but no sentences.
- Confused. Responds to questions coherently but there is some disorientation and confusion.
- Oriented.

A
- No motor response
- Extension to pain
- Flexion to pain
- Withdrawal from pain
- Localizes to pain
- Obeys commands

Severity of GCS
A
Severe GCS < 8–9
Moderate GCS 8 or 9–12
Minor GCS ≥ 13.

Stages of AVPU
A
A - Completely alert
V - Any response to verbal stimuli (as little as a grunt)
P - Any responce to pain
U - Unresponsive

What should you asses to classify a stroke
A
- unilateral hemiparesis and/or hemisensory loss of the face, arm & leg
- homonymous hemianopia
- higher cognitive dysfunction e.g. dysphasia

Bamford Stroke Classification
A
Total anterior circulation infarcts (TACI, c. 15%)
- involves middle and anterior cerebral arteries
Partial anterior circulation infarcts (PACI, c. 25%)
- involves smaller arteries of anterior circulation e.g. upper or lower division of middle cerebral artery
Lacunar infarcts (LACI, c. 25%)
- involves perforating arteries around the internal capsule, thalamus and basal ganglia
Posterior circulation infarcts (POCI, c. 25%)
- involves vertebrobasilar arteries
