How do you assess a lesion?
Asymmetry Irregular Borders Colours Diameter >6mm Evolution of the lesion (history of change).
Treatment of atopic eczema?
Emollient - put everywhere to repair skin barrier.
May require a short course of steroids - start hydrocortisone.
What are two causes of Eczema Herpeticum?
HSV or VZV.
How does E.H present?
Painful widespread vesicular rash with systemic symptoms - fever, lethargy, irritability, lymphadenopathy and reduced intake.
Treated of Eczema Herpeticum?
Aciclovir
What action should be taken if a pregnant lady does not have immunity to chickenpox but has been exposed?
Varicella zoster immunoglobulins
Preventing congenital varicella syndrome of the foetus.
What would indicate a candidal infection?
Satellite lesions
Also check the tongue.
How is non-bullous impetigo treated?
Topical fusidic acid
Oral flucloxacillin
What is a complication of Bullous Impetigo?
Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome
What is a positive Nikolsky Sign?
When a gentle rub of the skin causes it to peel away.
Positive in SSSS.
