Y9 Autumn Term Forces - Corrections Flashcards
From what point does weight act in an object?
From the centre of mass
From the centre of gravity
If the forces are balanced there must be an ….
EQUAL resultant force
How can you increase moment?
Increase the force
Increase the distance from the force to the pivot point
If Bob were testing friction from a block of wood on different surfaces, why would he place masses on the blocks?
To increase the friction because the more force the more friction
Why would bob keep the masses constant?
For fair testing because the more mass (force on the block) the more friction. IMPORTANT LINK
What is a non-continuous variable?
A variable that doesn’t change
What is the equation to work out the moment?
Moment = force x distance
What is the principle of moments when an object is in equilibrium?
Anti-clockwise moment = clockwise moment
What is the equation for the principle of moments?
Force 1 x distance 1 (perpendicular distance from line of force to pivot) = force 2 x distance 2
What is a non continvariable
Something that doesn’t change in the the experiment
