Y2, C8 - Parametric Equations Flashcards
What are parametric equations
When x and y are defined in terms of another variable (known as the parameter (usually t))
How can you convert parametric equations into a single Cartesian one?
1) Make t the subject
2) Sub into the other equation
What are the domain and range of a parametric function if x = p(t) and y = q(t) can be written as y = f(x)
Domain of f is range of p
Range of f is range of q
What is sec^2(x) equal to
1 + tan^2(x)
How do you turn trigonometric parametric equations into Cartesian equations
Use trigonometric identities
Find find x or y in terms of sin / cos / tan / sec and sub into the other equation
Without finding the Cartesian form, how would you draw a parametric equation on a graph
Sub in different values for t and plot points
How would you show that parametric equations are in a straight line?
Put them into the form of a linear Cartesian equation
