Q

Date and Explain the sinking of Lusitania.

Did the U.S. stay neutral after this?

A

On May 7 1915, Lusitania, a British ship carrying American goods and passengers got torpedo’ed by a German submarine just off the coast of Ireland. Losing over a hundred American lives. This was because Germ did say in February of that year that any ship in the Brit naval war zone could and would get shot. The U.S still stayed neutral because P.W.W. didn’t to want to lose more lives in war.

Q

Explain and put into context the Zimmerman Telegram.

Did the U.S. stay neutral after this?

A

The year is 1917. The Triple Entente is slowly getting ground down to nothing due to the years of trench war. The Triple Alliances has a chance of winning but they knew that if U.S. entered the war it will be over for them. So a German man named Arthur Zimmerman sent a coded telegram to Mexico with this alliance offer: Germany gets help to defeat Mexico and if they win Mexico will get help to take Arizona, Texas, and New Jersey back. This was basically a roundabout declaration on war to the U.S. so they declared war on Germany in April 1917.

Women took the men’s jobs at home (in factories making arms, ammunition and other stuff, farmers..) and helped support the economy this way. Propaganda was made to boost the morale through songs and posters (I need you for U.S. army poster, Over There song)
As well as donating to the government for war efforts + volunteer work (Red Cross).

Q

Date and explain the Traité de Versailles

A

The Traité de Versailles was signed in 1919 and was what gave an official end to the world war. This treaty had the Germans pay for a majority, if not all of the casualties caused by the war and gave some territories to other countries. (Alsace-Lorraine for France, couloir de Dantzig pour la Pologne.)
This also humiliated the Germans.
