How did the German people see the declaration of war ?
They were enthusiastic about the declaration and honoured as it was Germany’s time to seize power and show the power of their armed forces.
why were the German people enthusiastic about the war ?
This is because they want German supremacy and become a European rival to Britain and France.Also, they saw war as a resolution of social division.

Up until 1917 German support for the war had been high.
Why did war weariness start to appear amongst German citizens in 1917 ?
Due to the huge British navy they were able to blockade the German ports.The German people endured four years of intense deprivation due to the allied blockade, preventing food and raw materials reaching Germany.
What was the winter of 1917 known as ?
The turnip winter

because of the food shortages in the country.There was also disease and starvation

The market lost 75 % of its value and real earning dropped by 20 - 30 %

To the point of malnutrition, vulnerable to the diseases of poverty and exhaustion.

Between 1914 - 1918 deaths from tuberculosis rose by two thirds, deaths among women of pneumonia doubled and between 500,000 and 1 million people died of hunger.
What was caused by the unequal access to food ?
A sense of social injustice caused widespread unrest and fuelled on the revolution
How did the widespread unrest from social injustice affect the uprising ?
It enabled the uprising to spread so quickly despite very little leadership from socialist parties.
Despite the chaotic situation at home in Germany, what did they managed to do in March 1918 ?
They managed to knock Russia out of the war.This was significant as it meant that Germany now had to only fight on one front ( the western front ) instead of two.

It was a peace treaty between Soviet Russia and Germany.
