Metaphor
A comparison which is made but isnt literally true
Similie
Describing something using ‘like’ or ‘as’
Onomatopoeia
A word that demonstrates a sound
Rhyme
the same sounds between words or the ending of words. This is used especially in a poem.
Enjambment
The continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line, couplet or stanza
Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of the word
Personification
a figure of speech in which an object, an idea or an animal is given human qualities.
Imagery
visually descriptive or figurative language
Repetition
the action of repeating something that has already been said or written.
Stanza
A group of lines making a verse in a poem
Caesura
A metrical pause or break in a verse where one phrase ends and another phrase begins.
