Q

What are 3 muscle types and what they do

A

Cardiac ❤️ pushes blood through the circulatory system, located in the heart only and is autonomic ally controlled

Smoooooth 1. Skeletal muscles are generally attached to the bone.
they produce movement & maintain body posture. VOLUNTARY.

  1. Smooth muscles control the action of our stomach, bladder & blood vessels. INVOLUNTARY.
  2. Cardiac muscle is found only in the heart. INVOLUNTARY.

Q

Name four properties of muscle tissue

A

Has excitability/irritability (same)
Has the ability to contract
Has extensibility
Anddddd elasticity

Q

Involuntary contraction, own pacemaker cells, contraction rate altered by hormones and autonomic motor neurons; striated; very limited ability to repair after damage, most cells can’t divide➡️ some loss of function

These are all properties of what muscle ?

A

Cardiac! ❤️❤️❤️

Q

Where would you find smooth muscle cells???

Q

What are six functions of skeletal muscles

A

1 produce movement by pulling on bones at joints
2 mainstay posture and body position
3 support soft tissue by layers of muscle (across abdomen and floor of pelvic activity)
4 generate hear and maintain body temperature
5 form sphincter in digestive and urinary tracts ➡️ regulate swallowing, defecation and urination.
6 store nutrient reserves as proteins

Q

When a skeletal muscle fibre contracts :
______ pulls _____ so it slides towards centre of sacromere
Sliding occurs in every sacromere along cell
As _____ attached to sarcokemma at both ends of muscle cell ➡️ shorten muscle cell

A

When a skeletal muscle fibre contracts :
MYOSIN pulls ACTIN so it slides towards centre of sacromere
Sliding occurs in every sacromere along cell
As MYOFIBRILS attached to sarcokemma at both ends of muscle cell ➡️ shorten muscle cell

Q

Define isometric contraction

A

Overall length of muscle does not change during the contraction due to opposing forces , for example when you’re holding a bag o groceries

Q

Hypertrophy: decrease in size of cell, occurs in skeletal muscle cells due to lack of physical activity

True or false

A

Falseeeee
Atrophy : decrease in size of cell, occurs in skeletal muscle cells due to lack of physical activity

Hypertrophy is the increase in size of cell and it occurs in the cardiac muscle cells subjected to increased workload
