Wireless Network Standards Flashcards
What is the wireless networking standard?
IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 802.11
what is the most recent version of 802?
802.11ax (wifi 6, operates at 5ghz, 2.4ghz. It has 20, 40, 80 and 160mhz channel widths with total thoroughput of 1,201 megabits plus 8 bi directional MU-MIMO streams
what was one of the first 802 standards?
802.11a
What is an issue with 2.4ghz range?
wireless devices are not the only thing that use this frequency. Baby monitors, cordless phones microwaves and bluetooth also use it.
What is MIMO?
Multiple Input Multiple Output. a wireless communication technology that uses multiple transmitter and receiver antennas to increase the capacity of a radiolink.
What is OFDMA?
Orthogonal frequency division multiple access. works similar to cellular communications, improves high density installations
What is an RFID?
Radio Frequency Identification. Used in things like access badges, inventory tracking, pet identification or anything that needs tracking.
What is NFC?
Near Field Communications an extension of RFID. Often used in things such as payment devices.
