They use less power.
To this end, it is popular for places to offfer free Wi-Fi.
What should you do to secure networks?
Use the highest security framewokr possible. WPA2 in this context.
Never send login information in clear, unencrypted text.
Use a secure VPN connection.
What is an SSID?
A Service Set Identifier. It is put simply the name of the network.

It disables communications.
