What is a Preposition?
A preposition shows the relationship between any two nouns (N) or pronouns (P) in a sentence.
Being able to identify nouns and pronouns in sentences will help you to find and use prepositions.
A Preposition is a word or group of words used before a noun or a pronoun to show direction, location, time and position.
Prepositions:
in, on, to, up, off, for, into, with, over, behind, down, near, about, after, past, against, between, among, across, by, in front, under, over etc.
For example:
✓ The dog jumped over him.
Over is a preposition because it precedes the pronoun ‘him’ and shows direction.
✓ The workers are protesting against poor working conditions.
Examples:-
- The hikers rested under the shady tree.

In this example above, “under” relates the noun “hikers” to the noun “tree”.
A relationship is formed between the nouns.

- They hid among the bushes that afternoon.
