  • it is a system of numbers from 0 to 14
  • around the center, or number 7, would be neutral, substances that are not acids or bases
  • anything below 7 is acidic
  • anything above 7 is basic

how do you find out what number something is on the pH scale

A

you take a special kind of paper called litmus paper and dip it into the substance. the paper has a coating so after it is soaked in the substance it will change colors.
