What is a wetland?
An area covered by shallow water for most of the year.
What are some examples of wetlands?
Swamps, marshes, vleis and shallow lakes.
Why are wetlands important to the ecosystem?
Provide habitat and breeding grounds for plants and animals
Source of water for plants and animals
Filter the water to make it clean
Store water and prevent flooding
In dry season help keep rivers and streams flowing
What happens if we loss the wetlands?
Plants and animals no longer have a habitat to live in. They will die and move away.
What is biodiversity?
Is the term we use for all the different kinds of plants, animals and other living things found in an ecosystem.
Why are wetlands important for water quality?
Because they filter the water and make it clean.

How safe the water is to use.
What are the major threats to our wetlands?
Housing, agriculture and industry.
