What is internal communications?
Involves communications with an internal audience, such as employees, franchisees, stockholders or board members
Why is communicating with employees important?
- Effective employee communications builds morale and improves employee retention and performance
- It enhances an organization’s external communications program
What are the 4 key components of effective internal communications?
- Clear, consistent messaging
- Open, candid communication
- Sharing of information

What is the definition of “organizational culture”?
The shared values, beliefs and “learned responses” of an organization’s employees
What is informal communications?
Communication among employees that does not come from the internal communications team or management, such as discussions at company events, lunchroom conversations
What are information-pull technologies?
Tools that allow employees to access information they need and “pull” it as desired
What are information-push technologies?
Tools that “push” information onto employees by providing it when employees have not necessarily asked for it, such as an email
What are some tools for internal communications?
