Week 4 Flashcards
What ATA chapter is Gearbox Systems?
Chapter 83
supplies power from the engine to rotate accessories such as fuel pumps, lubrication pumps, generators, alternators, hydraulic pumps, fuel control units (FCU’s), governors and air conditioning compressors, just to name a few.
Accessory Gearbox System
The most simple gear found within a gearbox
Straight Cut Gear Or Straight Spur Gear
gears that are used to transmit power from one shaft to another when the shafts are not parallel with each other.
Bevel gear
very similar to straight cut gears except for the fact that the instead of the gear teeth being cut parallel to the axis of rotation, the gear teeth are cut at an angle to the axis of rotation.
Helical Gear
utilizes a compressor shaft bevel gear that is mounted as close as possible to the compressor shaft location bearing. This arrangement requires that the meshing bevel gears accommodate for small axial movements of the compressor shaft.
Direct Drive
Another means to drive the radial shaft is to pick-up the rotation of the compressor shaft through the use of a ______ , that has its own location bearing. is known as a ______ drive.
Stub-shaft Drive
This method has been widely used to overcome gear engagement difficulties associated with high RPM’s.
through the use of an idler gearshaft.
idler gear drive.
