Week 4 Flashcards
Joint type that allows only slight movement.
Amphiarthrosis
Tissue shaped like a disc or partial disc that provides cushioning at a joint.
Articular fibrocartilage
Small capsules lined with synovial membranes and filled with synovial fluid.
Bursae
Freely movable joint.
Diarthrosis.
Bands composed of collagen and elastic fibres that connect bones to other bones.
Ligaments
A tissue band composed of collagen and elastic fibres that connects a muscle to a bone.
Tendon
Type of amphiarthrosis joint in which a thin plate of hyaline cartilage separates a disc of fibrocartilage from the bones.
Symphysis
Joint at which dense, fibrous tissue binds the bones together, allowing extremely limited movement.
Syndesmosis
Fibrous joint that can absorb shock, but allows little or no movement of the articulating bones.
Synarthrosis
Type of amphiarthrosis joint in which the articulating bones are held together by a thin layer of hyaline cartilage.
Synchondrosis
Dense, white, connective tissue that covers articulating surfaces of bones at joints.
Articular cartilage
Growth plate near the ends of long bones where osteoblast activity increases bone length.
Epiphyseal plate
Double-layered synovial structures surrounding tendons that are subject to friction.
Tendon sheaths
The shaft of a long bone.
Diaphysis
Material with a rich blood supply found within the marrow cavity of long bones.
Bone marrow
