Progression to COPD? (5 stages)
A
- Long term exposure to gases/irritants
- Chronic inflammatory response (injury & repair)
- Alveolar destruction, bronchiolar fibrosis, scar tissue formation
- Airway entrapment leads to hyper – inflation of alveoli
- Alveolar destruction leads to hypoxemia, Hypercapnia, Pulmonary vasculature changes.
3
Q
Asthma?
What does it cause?
A
A chronic inflammatory disease of the airways
causes hyper-responsiveness, mucosal oedema and mucous production
4

Factors that inhibit wound healing?
A
- Infection
- Poor circulation
- Poor mobility
- Unhealthy diet
- Diabetes
- Inadequate hydration
- Age
- Trauma
- Ineffective wound management
5
Q
3 types of wound dressings?
A
- Passive –> cover, protect, moist environment
- Interactive –> absorbs exudate, moist environment, keep surrounding skin dry (activates cellular proliferation)
- Active –> improve healing process, skin grafts.

A
Removal of contaminated/dead/foreign tissue. E.g. surgical, water pressure jet
