Describe the 1-3-6 programs.
Screen by 1 month, confirm hearing loss by 3 months, and intervene by 6 months
What is otoacoustic emission?
Minature microphone and earphone placed in ear, sound is played, and if baby has normal hearing then an echo is measured by the microphone
What is auditory brainstem response?
Sounds are played into ear while an electrode is placed on the baby’s head, electrode will pick up responses from the hearing nerve
What happens if an infant does not pass the hearing screening?
They will be seen for a comprehensive audiological evaluation
Describe conditioned play audiometry.
For 30 months or older, make hearing testing into a game for child
Describe visual reinforcement audiometry.
For 5-30 months, child looks at visual cue when hear the sound
What are the main parts of a hearing aid?
The microphone, amplifier, receiver
Why are there so many different hearing aid options?
People have different lifestyles, different amplification needs, and age
When do adults qualify for a cochlear implant?
Do not have any benefit from amplification, moderate or profound hearing loss
When do children qualify for a cochlear implant?
Age 9-24 months = profound bilateral SNHL
Age 2-17 = Severe to profound bilateral SNHL
When do bone anchored hearing aids work best?
For patients with chronic ear disease
