What is a pressure overload?
A
Pressure due to high afterload as a result of strength training forces
the heart to contract harder against resistance that may increase
wall thickness (concentric hypertrophy).

What is a volume overload?
A
Volume due to high preload and amount of blood pass through heart
during endurance training increases stretch on cavity producing an
increase in size (eccentric hypertrophy).

Increases in plasma volume
A
Up to 20% increase in plasma volume after 3-6 aerobic training sessions
* No change in RBC mass
* Results in enhanced circulatory reserve – increase in total blood volume:
