Places nearer the equator are hotter and places nearer the North Pole are colder

Places located on flat land are warmer and mountain areas are colder and wetter

Places that are south facing are warmer and places facing north are colder

What is an air mass
It is a large volume of air which travels from one area to another one
What are the sources and characteristics of air masses
Land - dry
Oceans - wet
Tropics - warm
Arctic - cold
What do the air masses bring
A - cold air, heavy snow to uplands and northern areas
Pm - cooler conditions, warms slightly over ocean, can produce heavy snow
Tm - warm, moist air
Cm - warm, dry air, heat waves, risks of thunderstorms
Pc - winter brings cold, freezing conditions, chance of snow. Summer brings warmer and driest weather
What does an isobar do
The pattern tells us what type of pressure system is present or coming
What does close together or far apart mean in isobars
Close - low pressure
Far - high pressure
What dose a warm front bring and look like
Cloud and rain.
Wind speeds increase.
Small raise in temps.

What dose a cold front bring and look like
Heavy winds

Heavy rain

What is a warm sector
