weather Flashcards
what is precipitation
rain, snow, sleet any liquid falling from the sky
how would one measure wind speed
anenometer
how would one measure wind direction
wind vane
how would one measure pressure
barometer
how would one measure rain fall
a rain gauge
how would one measure humidity
a wet and dry bulb themometer
how does a wet and dry bulb themometer work
one bulb is dry so it records the actual temperature the other is wet and if the humidity is low the temp will be lower due to evaporation but if it is humid the temp differance will be small
what are some weather measuring implements kept in
a stevenson screen
why is the rain gauge in the ground
to stop evaporation by the sun
why are there slits in the stevenson screen
to allow free flow of air without allowing a draft
why is the stevenson screen off the ground over grass
the ground may inflence the temp, and if the ground were reflective or absorbed heat that would affect it
where should the rain gauge be
away from trees, in the ground
why is there a gap between the two roofs of the stevenson screen
so the roof is a poor condutor of heat so that it does not heat up
how would one measure temp
a max and min themometer
how does a max themometer work
when the temp increases the meruary forces the index down the thred to the temp, when it gets colder the merc can not return to the bulb
