Waves & Sound Experiment Apparatus Flashcards
Signal Generator
A power supply unit which generates alternative voltages. Both the amplitude and frequency can be varied. It can generate some wave, square or even triangular wave signals.
Loudspeaker + signal generator
Acts a source of sound. The loudness of sound can be varied by varying the amplitude of the alternating voltage.
Tuning forks of different frequencies
Each tuning fork is able to generate a particular frequency of sound.
Microphone
Converts sound waves into electrical signal which is then fed to the CRO
Mechanical wave driver (equivalent to a vibrator)
Produced vertical vibrations when connected to a signal generator. (Recall demonstration of stationary waves in stretched strings, Topic 11, Superposition)
Microwave transmitter and recover
The transmitter generates the microwaves; the receiver detects the microwaves.
Ripple tank
Used to study wave phenomena like interface, diffraction using water waves.
