Angioplasty
Dilation of a blocked or narrowed artery using a balloon catheter
Angiography/Arteriogram/Angiogram
Involves the injection of a contrast medium into the artery so that x-rays may be taken of the blood flow. Eg- abdominal, cardiac, cerebral, renal, ext
Ascites
Excessive accumulation of fluid
Biopsy
Done under ultrasound, fluoroscopy, or ct. A fine needle sample of cells or a core sample of tissue is taken for pathological testing
Catheter Drainage
A catheter is placed into a fluid collection in the body. The catheter is then attached to a drainage bag (biliary, percutaneous, urinary)
Contrast medium
A radiopaque substance used during x-Ray studies to provide a contrast in density between the tissue or organ being filmed and the media.
Core Biopsy
A cutting needle fired by a fun to remove a core of tissue from a solid organ.
Double contrast enema
Air contrast enema
A study of the large intestine using a combination of air and barium
Examination
The name of a procedure
FNA
Fine needle aspiration. Aspiration of cells through a fine needle
Fluoroscopy
Medical imaging procedure that uses a contrast medium to visualize anatomy and motion in real time
Modality
The decision of which medical imaging procedure is most appropriate to obtain a diagnosis. ( ct, us, MRI)
Modified barium swallow
An examination using various consistencies of barium to assess a patients ability to swallow
Paracentisis
A surgical puncture and drainage of a body cavity
Percutaneous
Through the skin
