definition-an object or action in writing which means more than itself. it stands for something beyond itself.
effect-this allows the creator to employ a visual image to express complex ideas.
juxtaposition
definition-placing two objects or ideas side by side for effect.
effect-enables the composer to emphasize difference or circumstance.

definition-language particular to a certain subject or idea.
effect-creates a link with people who are part of the target audience who may be familiar with the jargon.

definition-when a comment is made but in fact the opposite meaning is intended.
effect-creates humor and can create a sense of audience inclusion as they feel there in on it or they get it.

definition-a narrative mode where a story is said by one character who explicitly refers to him with phrases such as i,we,us.
effect-allows reader to appreciate experiences through a characters point of view. it creates a degree of intimacy./
second person
definition-author refers to the character or reader through direct address like you
effect-allows the writer to directly address the reader and create a sensation of dialogue.
third person
definition-story from a external narrators POV. sometimes called the eye of god technique as narrator is not limited.
effect-broader sense of what is going on from multiple point of views.
imagery
definition-.language used to create a picture in the readers mind. includes simile,metaphor use.
effect- allows the reader to visualize the scene.
