Vision Defects: Flashcards
Short sighted people can:
See near objects clearly, but struggles to focus on far away objects
Short sightedness is caused by which two things?
The lens of the eye being too powerful and resulting in the light coming to a principal focus in front of the retina, or the eye being elongated.
How is short sightedness corrected?
By placing a diverging lens in front of the lens of the eye, spreading the light out before it enters the eye so the light gets properly focused onto the retina.
Long sighted people can:
See distant objects clearly, but have an inferior near point (the closest distance the eye can focus on) to normal sighted people.
Long sightedness is cause by:
The eye being too short, resulting in the light being focused behind the retina or the lens being too weak to converge the light properly.
Long sightedness is corrected by:
Placing a converging lens in front of the eye
The power of a diverging lens is always
Negative, because the focal point is in front of the lens
How does laser eye surgery work?
Laser cuts into the cornea so that the light focuses correctly on the retina
