V1 (21-05-18) Flashcards
What is the value of V1 based on?
Spare runway
Runway surface condition
Weather in climb out
Terrain/obstacles on climb out
What is Vgo?
The first speed at which you could continue with an engine failure.
What is Vstop?
The last speed at which you can stop with the remaining runway.
In relation to Vgo and Vstop, where is the range of possible V1s?
Between them
What happens to Vgo and Vstop with an increase in mass?
Vgo gets faster
Vstop gets slower
therefore the range of possible V1s narrows
What is it called when increasing mass causes Vgo=Vstop?
We find a balanced V1
this occurs at RLTOM
If a TO situation callls for a pilot to be “go minded” (for example the runway dropping off into the sea) in the range of possble V1s where would we want out selected V1 to be?
Slower/closer to Vgo so that we are committed to going closer to the beginning of the TO run.
If a TO situation callls for a pilot to be “stop minded” (for example the runway having high obstacles just after it) in the range of possble V1s where would we want out selected V1 to be?
Faster/closer to Vstop so that we are committed to stopping in the case off an engine failure for more of the TO run.
Out of V1, Vgo and Vstop, which are shown to the pilot on the speed tape?
Only V1 so that the pilot can’t make subjective decisions based on knowing where the other speeds are.
What is the effect of increasing V1 if the pilot is limited by TODA?
TODR reduces
RLTOM increases
What is the effect of increasing V1 if the pilot is limited by ASDA?
The ASDR increases
The RLTOM reduces
When considering the effects of variables on V1, which variables make us consider effects on Vgo?
Mass, density and TO flap
(A/C config & air properties)
When considering the effects of variables on V1, which variables make us consider effects on Vstop?
Upslope, downslope, headwind component, tailwind component and a wet runway.
What is the effect on V1 of an increase in:
Mass; density; flap; upslope; downslope; headwind; tailwind and wetness.
