Urbanisation-
Is the growth in proportion of a country’s population living in urban areas.
Rural-urban migration=
The movement of people from the countryside to the cities.
Push factor-
Things that encourage people to leave an area.
Pull factors-
Things that encourage people to move to an area.
Informal economy-
Means an unofficial economy, where no records are kept. People in the informal economy have no contracts or employment rights.
Formal economy-
Means one which is official, meets legal standards for accounts, taxes and workers pay and condition.
% of GDP from informal economy-
Kampala- 50%
New Delhi- 78%
India- 50%
New York- 7%
Sub-urbanisation=
The outwards growth of urban development which may engulf surrounding villages and towns.
Re-urbanisation=
Usually a governments initiative to counter the problem of inner city decline.
Hyper-urbanisation=
Is the rapid growth of city areas.
Vision Mumbai (Top down)-
Aims:
- Demolish slums
- Improve water, sanitation and health care.
- Improve rail and road transport.
- Boost economic growth.
Lok Seva Sangham (Bottom up development)
What is it?
A voluntary agency aimed at leprosy control and at the welfare of leprosy patients in the urban area of Mumbai curing leprosy patients.
