UNIT THREE: Photosynsis Flashcards
How do green plants make their own food?
By converting light energy to chemical energy (food) using a green pigment in the leaves called CHLOROPYLL.
What is the first stage of Photosynthesis called?
Photolysis
What happens in Photolysis?
Water splits into three: hydrogen, ATP (energy) and oxygen
What happens to oxygen in Photolysis?
Oxygen will diffuse out the stomata. As waste.
What is the second stage of Photosynthesis called?
Carbon fixation
What happens in Carbon fixation?
The Hydrogen and ATP from stage 1 mixes together with Carbon dioxide to produce glucose.
What are the 3 fates of Glucose?
- Aerobic respiration
- Cellulose made for cell walls
- Stored as starch
What factors affect photosynthesis?
-Light intensity
-Carbon dioxide concentration
-Temperature
What would you be able to see in a carbon dioxide graph?
The line will increase and then will no longer have an affect.
What would you be able to see in a light intensity graph?
The line will increase and then will no longer have an affect.
What would you be able to see in a temperature graph?
Rate will increase to optimum temperature, then quickly decreases.
Why does the rate decrease so fast in a temperature graph?
The enzymes become denatured.
Molecule which traps light energy from the sun
Chlorophyll
Leaf organelle which contains chlorophyll and is the site of photosynthesis
Chloroplast
