Unit Three: Gas and Solute Exchange Flashcards
1
Q
What does Co2 diffuse in through?
A
Little holes called stomata
2
Q
What is the underneath of a leaf called?
A
An exchange surface
3
Q
What also diffuses in and out through the stomata?
A
Oxygen and water vapour
4
Q
What is the size of the stomata controlled by?
A
Guard cells which close the stomata if the plant is losing water faster than it is being replaced by the roots
5
Q
What does the flattened shape of the leaf do?
A
It increases the area of the exchange surface so that it’s more effective
6
Q
What do air spaces (inside the leaf) do?
A
They increase the area of the wall of the cell so there’s more chance for carbon dioxide to get into the cells
