Unit One Chapter One Flashcards
What is data
Data is raw unorganised facts that need to be processed. E.g 89
What is informatation
It is data that’s been processed and organised which has been given context. “89% was the average class score”
What is sample rate
How many samples or measurements of an audio recording or sound per second. The more samples per second that are taken the more detail in sound waves.
What is bit rate
The bit rate of a file or audio tells u how many bits can be processed per second. It’s measured in kilobits per second.
What is Bit depth
The number of bits available to store sound samples. High quality audio samples require high bit depth
What is ADC
Stands for Analogue to Digital Converter which converts sound waves to digital waves that are easier for a computer to read. Measured in Hertz
How many bytes
Bit. 1bit - 1/8 byte
Nibble. 4bits-1/2Byte
Byte. 8bits - 1 Byte
Kilobyte. 1,024B
Megabyte. 1024KB
What is streaming
Listening to music or watching video in real time instead of downloading a file yo your computer and watching later
What are the advantages of streaming
It’s accessible and doesn’t take up storage
What’s the disadvantages of streaming
It’s costly and needs inter connection
What is buffering
Preloading data into a reserved area of memory called buffering
What is the buffer
The name of the area in memory where data is preloaded.
What is a pixel
It’s usually a square. It’s the smallest unit of a digital image that can be displayed and edited on a screen
What’s image resolution
It tells us the quality of an image the more pixels the higher the quality and sharpness of the picture
What is bitmap
An image made up of individual bits where each bit represents one pics
