Q

3 Levels of Dependence

A

(1) Independent - Cl. performs all aspects of the transfer, including set-up, in a safe manner and w/o assistance. May still need verbal cues
(2) Assisted - Cl. participates actively, requires assistance by one or more ppl
(3) Dependent - Cl. does not participate actively, or only minimally: mechanical lifts required

Q

5 Body mechanics principles to keep in mind during transfer

A

(1) position yourself CLOSE to Cl.
(2) keep your head IN LINE w/ your hips
(3) ensure wide BOS
(4) use SHORT LEVER arms
(5) contract your CORE muscles and maintain NEUTRAL spine

Q

What has to happen to ankles and trunk during Sit to Stand? When does the maximum contraction of our quads occur?

A

feet/ankle: are behind patellae, feet flat
trunk: Forward leaning = hips flexed to advance trunk forward

17
Q

3 types of assistance

A
  • verbal cuing
  • balance control
  • physical assistance
18
Q

Types of mov’t (4)

A
  • bed mobility
  • sit-stand-sit
  • 1 person t/f
  • 2 person t/f
19
Q

What does ABC stand for in communication with Cl.?

A

Alertness
Behaviour
Cooperation

20
Q

T/F

Slower is easier than faster due to momentum

A

False

21
Q

T/F

The lower the chair height, the less lower extremity strength is required to achieve lift off

A

False

Higher the chair
