Unit 3 Test Review Pt. 1 Flashcards
where does cell. respiration occur
mitochondria
equation for cell respiration
C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy
what are the diff kinds?
aerobic/anaerobic
aerobic respiration..
- use oxygen
- LOTS of ATP
- multicellular (big animal)
anaerobic respiration..
- no oxygen
- makes little oxygen
- unicellular (tiny bacteria like yeast)
what are the parts to aerobic respiration
- glycolysis
- krebs cycle
- electron transport chain (ETC)
location of glycolysis
cytoplasm
location of krebs cycle
mitochondrial matrix
location of ETC
inner mitochondrial matrix
what is the part of anaerobic respiration/ where is it?
glycolysis, cytoplasm
what is glycolysis?
breaking down a 6-C sugar into 2 3-C pyruvate
2 ATP gain
what is krebs cycle/citric acid cycle?
- Pyruvate goes to mitochondrial matrix + changed into Acetyl CoA
- CO2, 2 ATP, NADH, FADH2 made
what is electron transport chain?
- NADH/FADH2 take off their hydrogen to donate an electron, which travels through the proteins until taken on by an oxygen, which also takes on 2 hydrogens to turn into water
- the electricity from electrons moving pulls the hydrogen up through the proteins and to the outside of the inner mitochondrial membrane
- ATP synthase
how does mitochondria reproduce?
binary fission
what are the 2 things that the electron carriers (NADH/ FADH2) bring to the electron transport proteins?
electrons and hydrogen ions
