12
Q

what is krebs cycle/citric acid cycle?

A
  • Pyruvate goes to mitochondrial matrix + changed into Acetyl CoA
  • CO2, 2 ATP, NADH, FADH2 made

13
Q

what is electron transport chain?

A
  • NADH/FADH2 take off their hydrogen to donate an electron, which travels through the proteins until taken on by an oxygen, which also takes on 2 hydrogens to turn into water
  • the electricity from electrons moving pulls the hydrogen up through the proteins and to the outside of the inner mitochondrial membrane
  • ATP synthase

16
Q

how is ATP made through the ATP synthase?

A

everytime a hydrogen goes through, it attaches the phosphate onto ADP to make ATP

17
Q

what happens during fermentation in muscle cells?

A

the 2 pyruvates turn into lactate, which accepts the electrons from NADH, so we can make NAD+ which can be recycled again

18
Q

what is the problem that exists if no oxygen is present

A

glycolysis will stop because there is no NAD+ to turnn into NADH
