unit 3 notes nervous system Flashcards
what are the two major branches of the nervous system
central nervous system controlling integrative functions. the peripheral nervous system controlling sensory/motor functions.
what does the somatic division of the PNS control
skeletal muscle effectors
what does the autonomic division of the PNS control
smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, gland effectors and fight/flight
what is the effect on the body from the sympathetic division of the autonomic division of the PNS
accelerates heart, opens airway, dilates pupils, secretes adrenaline, inhibits salavation
what are the neurotransmitters associated with the sympathetic nervous system
norepinephrine and epinephrine
what is the effect on the body from the parasympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system
slowed HR, increased salivation and release of bile, constriction of airways, constriction of bladder and pupils
what is the result of the parasympathetic nervous system over responding
loss of consciousness
what is the neurotransmitter associated with the parasympathetic nervous system
acetylcholine and the vagal nerve
